Come join us this weekend, November 8 and 9, to celebrate the new direction for our country and strategize about the bold, green steps that will help us solve our overlapping national crises.
It's our fourth annual DC Green Festival at the Washington Convention Center, we'd like to invite you to join us.
If you enjoy what you read in our e-newsletters and have been waiting to become a supporting member—now is the perfect opportunity to cash in on membership!
Join today to begin receiving our green-living newsletter, quarterly magazine, and a copy of our National Green Pages™. Even better, bring a print-out of your join-confirmation e-mail to the Green Festival, and you can get in free at the members-only ticket booth and bypass all ticket lines.
A two-day party with a purpose, the Green Festival shows that the green life is the good life — showcasing the latest in renewable energy, recycled products, sweatshop-free clothing, Fair Trade, organic food, and much more! Plus, we'd really love to meet you personally, so please stop in at Co-op America's Green Festival booth, where you can indulge in a sweet treat (Fair Trade chocolate!) and pick up our latest publications—hot off the press!
Come listen to more than 150 visionary speakers on hand this year, including Bill McDonough, Lester Brown, Annie B. Bond, Katrina vanden Heuvel, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr., and more. And hear from our staff experts -- Yochi Zakai on Fair Trade, Vickie Kreha on pressuring corporations to clean up their act, Prianjali Mascarenhas on community investing, Amy Belanger on green living, and yours truly on accelerating the low-carbon energy future and green solutions to the economic crisis.
Plus, you can do all your holiday shopping (guilt-free) at Green Festival, supporting the more than 350 great green businesses who will be on hand with everything from the latest solar gadgets to fairly traded gifts ideas (dolls, bags, clothes, housewares) for everyone on your list. All of the businesses at Green Festival have passed Co-op America's strict screens on social and environmental responsibility -- no green washing here!
That's before we even mention our kids' activities, delicious organic cuisine, a premier Green film festival, yoga and movement room, Fair Trade pavilion, and hands-on workshops on everything from green buildings to green careers.
We can't wait to give you the red carpet treatment at the DC Green Festival—see you this weekend!
In cooperation,

Alisa Gravitz
Executive Director
Co-op America
P.S. Members come from up and down the East Coast, and from across the country to make a weekend of it -- carbon offsets on us. (Plan ahead for the San Francisco Green Festival, November 14 - 16. Our Green Festivals Web site has information on special hotel discounts.)

DON"T LET CREEPY STRANGERS IN YOUR HOUSE
Don't let any toxic "strangers" into your home, studio or office. Please READ all lables - food, drinks, laundry soap, make up, paint, glue and of course your cleaning supplies. J
ust because Big Industry says Natural on the front label it does not mean that it is good for you or safe, the product may still contain artificial flavoring, artificial coloring and/or preservatives.
If there is a Skull & Cross Bones on the label or the label advises only using with the windows open on or when wearing a mask - then leave it at the store. IT MAY BE TRUE WHAT THE LABEL STATES!
We don't trust a company that will not disclose the content. Therefore we will not clean with any unknown products that has not been approved by our ECOCREW certification system. We don't care about Big industy excuses about "secret formulas".
It's up to each family to make choices on how to live healthy and stay healthy: Here are a few ideas of what you could do for your family to start taking steps towards a more holistic, green and sustainable lifestyle. If you teach your children good habits and that preventative health care, you will have come a long way:
Have all family members recycle paper, glass, aluminum, batteries etc. Set up separate bins to make it easy. And for goodness sake if you are overloaded with duplicates from school PTA etc, due to several children in the same school, ask the teachers to send one copy of each.
Eat organic and biodynamic foods and drinks as much as you can.
Shop around to find good local ORGANIC produce.
Local produce is not the same as organic.
Limit the amount of stuffed animals, blankies and pillows. We know the stuffies love to be hugged, but so does the dust, dustmites that live in beds, pillows and blankies. Wash blankets, sheets and washable stuffed animals a couple of times a year. Have the children help you on a big " take out and shake out", in your yard or off your balcony. You will be amazed how much dust you will see flying.
Mattresses, sofas and upholstered furniture should be vaccumed at least twice a year with special upholstery heads. (we have equipment to clean soft stuffed animals and pillows etc for spring and fall deep cleanings)
Please send us your ideas:
